In January of 2016, Massachusetts adopted new K-12 science standards largely based on the Next-Generation Science Standards. These standards were developed by a collaborative of states to improve science education for all students by recognizing three distinct and equally important dimensions to learning science: practices, core ideas, and cross-cutting concepts. The new standards have a focus on process and the "doing" of science, rather than memorization of disjointed facts.
